Emily Bongo

About me
My name is Emily Bongo, and I am an Organismal Biology Pre-Vet freshman at Auburn University. I’m from Morristown, New Jersey, where I graduated from Morristown High School (Class of 2025). My passion for veterinary medicine started with my lifelong involvement in horseback riding and has grown through practical experience, including two summers shadowing a large-animal veterinarian and a year working at the Morris Animal Inn. I also volunteer at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center and the CARE Humane Society in Auburn, where I help with enrichment activities like “doggy dates.” I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award by helping implement therapy dogs in the Morris School District, reflecting my commitment to animal care and community service. At Auburn, I am involved in the Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA), Paws for a Cause, and Delta Zeta, where I actively participate in service initiatives. Looking ahead, I hope to expand my experience further by working in a veterinary practice as I prepare for a future career in veterinary medicine.

Girl Scout Gold Award
In my sophomore year of high school I took on my girl scout gold award. With mental health advocacy in mind the idea of therapy dogs took lead. With a few emails to Megan Lucignani, a 4th grade teacher in the district and owner of Teddy, and Marietta Scorsune, an assistant vice principal at Morristown High School and my project advisor, the project took flight in Fall of 2024 and will continue on. Hopefully in upcoming years the program can extend into the middle and elementary schools.

This program, which launched in September 2024, ensures that, during lunch, therapy dogs are accessible to students who have had a rough day in school, at home, or just need a pick-me up. With help from Teddy and Creature Comfort mental health has become a larger priority in Morristown High School.

Describe your service here. What makes it great? Use short catchy text to tell people what you offer, and the benefits they will receive. A great description gets readers in the mood, and makes them more likely to go ahead and book.
